During the federal Public Health Emergency related to COVID-19, WIC was provided waivers to provide food substitutions for participants who had trouble finding certain WIC-approved food items. These waivers are ending with the end of the federal Public Health Emergency.

Here is what is changing back to pre-COVID approval on August 1, 2023.

Eggs

Purchase any brand of a dozen large or medium, grade A or AA in white or brown.

Extra-large or jumbo are no longer allowed. Organic, free range and specialty eggs are not allowed.

Bread

Purchase any approved brand of 12, 16, 20 and 24 ounce whole wheat.

Unapproved brands will no longer be allowed.

Approved brands include: Aunt Mille’s, Best Choice, Brownberry, Bunny Bread, Dillions, Essential Everyday, Healthy Life, HyVee, IGA, Kroger, Lewis, Nature’s Own, Oroweat, Ozark Hearth, Pepperidge Farm, Price Chopper, Sara Lee, Schnucks and Wonder.
