What can I buy with my Peanut Butter/Beans benefit?
If you have 1 container of peanut butter/beans in your benefit balance, you can use it to buy 1 jar of peanut butter, 4 cans of beans or 1 bag of dried beans. See the Idaho WIC Food List for more details.

Why are Peanut Butter and Beans good for my family?
- Beans are nutritious, affordable and healthy!
- Both are good sources of plant-based protein, which provides energy and helps your body build bones, muscles, skin, blood and more!
- Peanut butter contains nearly 80% monounsaturated fats, which is considered a healthy fat.
- Beans are also a good source of fiber, iron, potassium, magnesium, zinc and other trace minerals the body needs.
What are some good Peanut Butter and Beans tips?
PEANUT BUTTER
- Allergy Prevention in Most Babies – Since peanuts are a potentially allergenic food, introduce to your baby along with other complimentary foods. This may help reduce their risk of becoming allergic. If your child has severe eczema or egg allergies, ask your child’s health care provider before introducing peanut butter. If you have questions about food allergies, talk to your local WIC office or your child’s health care provider.
- Choking Prevention in Children – Children under the age of 4 are at a higher risk of choking while eating some foods, like peanut butter. Do not serve spoonfuls of peanut butter. Instead serving creamy peanut butter (not chunky) and spreading it really thin onto foods can help make it safer.
- Snack Ideas:
- Add to a bowl of oatmeal
- Use as a dip for apples, carrots, etc.
- Add to a smoothie
- Mix with yogurt and enjoy by itself or as a dip for fruit
BEANS
- 1 cup dried beans is equal to about 3 cups beans after they are cooked.
- Make a batch of beans to use all week in tacos, salads, burritos, soups and more!
- You can turn a can of pinto beans into Refried Beans in a matter of minutes! Mix in salsa, cheese or other seasonings to make your own flavor!
- Do you like hummus? With a can of chickpeas (also called garbanzo beans) and a few other ingredients, you can make your own Hummus!
