Why does WICShopper say my FRESH fruit or vegetable is NOT APPROVED?
WIC recommends not using the scanner on FRESH fruits and vegetables. Instead, check the Kansas WIC Food List to see what’s allowed. Some UPCs are not in our WICShopper app but may still ring allow at the register. Some examples of this are grapes, fresh cut cantaloupe, strawberries and bagged avocados.
If you scan a FRESH item and it says, “Not Approved,” you can still try to buy it. If the item fits the food list description, then WIC should pay for it at checkout.
If WIC doesn’t pay for the item at checkout, you can ask the cashier to take it off or choose to pay for it yourself. If possible, use the “I couldn’t buy this” to notify WIC an item did not ring and we will work with the store to get it corrected for future purchases.
